Discounts for General Public
**Our normal discount policies are not in effect for some virtual events. Some discounts only apply to in-person events.**
- 3 or More Weekend Seminars: Register for three or more in-person weekend seminars and receive a discount.

Discounts for Teachers
Current K-12 employees and Community College faculty and staff are eligible to attend one Weekend Seminar for free per semester. Any additional in-person seminars are 50% off.
- To register for your free in-person seminar, email human@unc.edu and instructions will be provided.
- Unfortunately, funding restrictions do not allow us to offer discounts/stipends to substitute or retired teachers.
- All virtual Weekend Seminars are free for current K-12 employees and Community College faculty and staff. To register for a virtual ticket, visit the event description page and click on the ‘teacher registration’ button.
- Discounts are provided courtesy of the Daisy Edmister Teacher Support Fund.
UNC Staff, Faculty, & Students Registration Policy
All currently enrolled UNC-CH students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend Humanities in Action lectures, free of charge. There’s no need to register ahead of time, just present your valid OneCard (physical or virtual) at the door for admission. Please note that paying participants receive priority registration and that special/music events do not qualify for the policy.
UNC-CH staff and faculty are eligible for a 50% discount on the tuition for our Weekend Seminars. Advanced registration is required, and optional meals are full price. This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts. The 50% faculty and staff discount isn’t available via our online registration system. Call us at (919) 962-1544 to redeem.
UNC-CH undergraduate and graduate students are invited to attend our Weekend Seminars free of charge, space permitting, but advanced registration is required. Students may request to register beginning the Monday before the seminar by emailing our registrar at human@unc.edu. Please include the following information in your email request:
- Full legal name and any preferred nickname for name badge
- Student status: undergraduate or graduate
- Local mailing address
Any optional meals are full price. For Weekend Seminars, please contact us by 1pm the day before the seminar.
For all other students, please contact Max Owre at owre@email.unc.edu for special student initiative pricing.
Cancellation Policy
If an event is cancelled, the full tuition amount will be refunded or can be applied as credit towards other programming.
Participants who need to cancel a seminar will receive a refund for tuition (minus a $30 administrative fee per in-person full day seminar, or $15 fee per in-person half day seminar) for cancellations made at least one business day before a seminar. Refunds for optional meals will be made in full for cancellations made by noon, two business days prior to a seminar.
Cancellations for virtual tickets of Weekend Seminars or Humanities in Action will incur a $5 administrative fee per cancelled ticket. Virtual tickets for Great Books Reading Groups are non-refundable once we have shipped your book or reading (normally 3-4 weeks before the start of each group).
We reserve the right to cancel events or meals in case of insufficient enrollment or weather. If Carolina Public Humanities cancels an event, the full tuition amount will be refunded.
As a unit of UNC-Chapel Hill, we are not permitted to conduct events if the University is officially closed. If we are unable to reschedule the event, full refunds will be issued.
Weekend Seminars
Refunds for tuition (minus a $10 administrative fee for each registration) will be issued for cancellations made at least two business day before the event.
Humanities in Action Lecture Series
Refunds for tuition (minus a $5 administrative fee for each registration) will be issued for cancellations made at least one business day before the Humanities in Action lecture. Series Pass holders can receive a refund if it’s requested before the first event. Once the series has started, no refunds can be issued.
Great Books Reading Groups
Refunds for tuition (minus a $5 administrative fee) will be issued if a book has not been mailed. There is no refund once a book has been mailed.
Credit in Lieu of Refunds
If you are unable to attend an event, we are happy to provide you with credit for a future event. Registrants are charged reduced cancellation fees if choosing credit for a future event instead of a refund.
